Thai durian and fruit cold-chain transport guide
Reference temperatures and key steps for moving durian by road from farm or packhouse to port or border.

Why durian needs extra care
Durian is climacteric: it keeps ripening after harvest, respires heavily and is ethylene-sensitive. Too warm and it ripens or splits; below about 10°C whole fruit can suffer chilling injury, with peel browning from the grooves between spines.
Reference temperatures
- Fresh whole durian: about 13–15°C, 85–95% RH (Cargo Handbook; University of Hawaiʻi CTAHR).
- Frozen durian pulp/paste: core -18°C or below.
- Lychee: commonly around 1–4°C.
These are general guidelines; follow your buyer’s contract and the exporter’s specification.
Key road-leg steps
- Pre-cool fruit at the packhouse
- Pre-cool the truck box
- Measure and record fruit and box temperature
- Stack for airflow and load fast
- Track with GPS and a temperature logger
- Share temperature data at the port or border
Export compliance
Fresh durian to China must come from registered orchards and packhouses with phytosanitary certificates — handled by the exporter and customs broker. MP provides temperature-controlled road transport within Thailand, not customs clearance.
How MP helps
4/6/10-wheel refrigerated trucks; every truck has GPS and a temperature logger, and cargo insurance on every truck starts from 1,000,000 THB.
